Did You Hire a GC or a Subcontractor Middleman?
Did You Hire a “Paper Contractor?
Let’s talk about something that makes a lot of homeowner’s nervous: Subcontractors. We’ve all heard the horror stories of the ‘no-show’ plumber or the GC who just hires random people off an app. But at VIP services, we do things differently.
1st off, we aren’t “paper-contractors”. In this business, there are many that are running remodel projects with no real experience in doing any of this work themselves, and also don’t employ anyone directly. They are mainly sales peoples without real experience, control or oversight, mainly relying on subcontractors to do all the work correctly the 1st time, and waiting until a homeowner raises a problem instead of the other way around.
We have 8 to 10 full-time employees who handle the heart of your project—everything from the framing and drywall to that high-end cabinet install and finish painting. These are people we’ve trained in our own daily cleanup and quality standards. They know the way we do things, The VIP way.
In addition, we have project managers that manage all jobs, and our rule is that they should visit every site at least 2-3 times per week, and more often if needed. Behind the scenes, you’ve got a dedicated Project Planner pre-ordering ALL of your materials and ensuring that all is ready before we start and a Scheduler that focuses on scheduling all trades and crew so we eliminate delays between. We pre-plan to eliminate gaps and keep the momentum going so your project stays on track.
Now, for specialized trades like heavy electrical or plumbing, we do use trusted partners but the difference is that we’ve worked with these guys for years.
Most contractors have one ‘guy’—and if he gets sick, your project stops. We keep a ‘deep bench” meaning, we have multiple partners for every trade who know our systems and our expectations. Because we have these long-term relationships, we don’t have to scramble—and you don’t have to deal with “unexpected” delays.
But the important part is management.
Usually, things don’t go well because the General Contractor hasn’t sent a timeline, expectations, scope of work or what to do if there are issues which creates chaos and scrambling to get things done.
Before our trade partner touches anything, our Project Manager meets them on-site for a full walkthrough. They get a written work order with photos so there’s no guesswork. Plus, our PMs are on your site 2 to 3 times a week—minimum.
We have found that over 20+ years, this process doesn’t just HOPE the work gets done right, but ensures that it will.
